Thanks for visiting, Andy, and for your comment. I can understand your reservations about the term procrastination, but it simply was the best choice.

Differentiating between putting off things that you need to do, and things that you should not do, is unfortunately more clear in hind sight. In the moment, it is all often considered stuff that you should do, so perhaps procrastination is not that bad a description after all. Besides, procrastination is simply a value judgement on the act of delay, and such value judgements are at best subjective, and not always accurate when we make them.

Having said that, I look forward to the results of your search for a word for putting things off that you should not do right now. As ever, I am open to suggestions, and I'm sure it will open up some more interesting discussions.

Thanks for dropping by and looking forward to more of your input in the future.

I agree with the general concept of this post, but I'm not entirely sure that what you're describing can actually be called procrastination. Maybe "delay" would be a better word for it. But procrastination means you put things off that you need to do. There should be another word for putting things off that you should not do right now. I'll come up with one and let you know... mind if I do it later?

Hah!
I scoff at your puny ignorance. Scoff!

According to the "boffin folk", the color of the universe is actually Cosmic Latte, or if you're democratically inclined it's Cappuccino Cosmico. So there!

Pshh! The universe isn't grey. Some boffin folk did a large bit of crunching; they squinted really, really hard while looking at the sky, and they say the universe is taupe.
