hi Samir,

thanks a ton. i now have many pointers to search for other editions of the same book. if not rupa & co, i'll find something that matches with it in look and feel at the very least.

i must say, your post on this subject is excellent reading. and i had a great time reading the same.

was a pleasure talking to you.

thank you,
andie

Hi Andie,

The book I have is divided into 3 parts:

Part 1: [No illustrations]
A Study in Scarlet
A Sign of Four

Part 2: [Illustrations by Sidney Paget]
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes
The Hound of the Baskervilles
The Return of Sherlock Holmes

Part 3: [Illustrations by Frank Wiles, Howard K. Elcock, Walter Paget, Arthur Gilbert, H.M. Brock, Joseph Simpson, and maybe some others I missed]
Reminiscences of Sherlock Holmes
The Valley of Fear
His Last Bow
The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes

Being a fairly cheap Indian print, the illustrations are all mostly too dark and invisible, but it beats having nothing.

Hope this helps.
Samir

hi Samir,

thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to suggest some pointers. much obliged.

the book you have suggested do resemble the rupa & co edition in look based on the few pages that amazon allows one to see. just want your input on one last thing. just wanted to know in which of the 'sub-books' of your book are there illustrations? and who are these illustrations by? sidney paget?

again, i am grateful for the suggestions and help extended.

regards,
andie

I'm guessing finding exactly this edition is going to be tough, because I did get this a long time ago. This book was a Rupa & Co printing for India supposedly with permission from Omega Books. There was no ISBN number on it. There are, of course, always plenty of versions of the collected Sherlock Holmes stories around.

For example there's this one on Amazon, which has all the stories and novels, but I'm not sure if it come with the illustrations:
The Complete Sherlock Holmes: Four Novels and Four Short Story Collections in One Volume

Or this one has the illustrations, but not all the novels are included because they were not all published illustrated in Strand Magazine originally:
The Original Illustrated Sherlock Holmes

So, whether these or other versions, you should be able to get a replacement of some sort. Best of luck with the search.

Anxious for every next word? That sounds like a dangerous symptom! Remember the cure to all addiction is to just say no. :)

But until then, glad to provide the harmless
words and thanks for the compliment.

Looked up some descriptions of the book, and it sounds very intriguing! Must keen an eye out for it. I wish I was reading more, though. My current track record is not very good. Too many half finished books to speak of.

I'm sure I'll get my reading groove back in time. :) Thanks for the tip, and very glad you enjoyed the post.

Thanks Magali. If I ever get into animation, which I want to, I'll be sure to use that scene somewhere. ;)
